MIDLAND, TEXAS — The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has announced the latest details regarding the ongoing maintenance project on Big Spring Street. The ambitious $19 million project, which commenced in August 2023, is set to continue this Sunday and aims for completion by October 2024, provided weather conditions remain favorable.
The project has been structured into one-week phases to ensure minimal disruption to the community. During these phases, one lane of traffic in each direction will remain open. Paving preparation will occur overnight, with actual paving scheduled during the day to reduce inconvenience for motorists and maintain project momentum.
The final paving surface will be applied starting from Phase 4. Below are the detailed phases of the project:
- Phase 1: W Wadley Ave. to W Hamby Ave.
- Phase 2: W Hamby Ave. to W Indiana Ave.
- Phase 3: W New York Ave. to IH 20
- Phase 4: IH-20 to W New York Ave.
- Phase 5: W Indiana Ave. to W Hamby Ave.
- Phase 6: W Hamby Ave. to W Wadley Ave.
- Phase 7: W Wadley Ave. to 600 feet north of Loop 250
TxDOT aims to balance the need for infrastructure improvement with the necessity of maintaining traffic flow and minimizing the impact on daily commutes.
