Costco Coming to Midland: New Location Announced

Midland, TX — The City of Midland has announced that a new Costco store will be opening in west Midland, marking a significant investment in the local economy. The planned 174,000-square-foot facility will require a $50 million capital investment and is expected to create approximately 100 full-time jobs. Construction is slated to begin by June 1, 2025, with completion anticipated by August 31, 2026.

The Midland Development Corporation (MDC) is supporting the project with up to $6.5 million in reimbursements for infrastructure and site improvements. The city will also offer incentives, including a 50% rebate on property taxes and sales tax receipts for several years.

This project has been highly anticipated by the Midland community, and city officials are optimistic about its potential economic benefits. The new store is expected to attract further commercial development to the area, boosting the local economy.

Robbery Leads to Arrest in Midland

In another development, Midland Police arrested 56-year-old Ivory Lugene Merrite on August 8, 2024, following an aggravated robbery at a laundromat in southeast Midland. Merrite confessed to the crime and now faces first-degree felony charges. He is being held at the Midland County Jail.
