CITY OF MIDLAND ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR NEW CHRISTMAS AND HOLIDAY LIGHTING PROGRAM FOR DOWNTOWN

MIDLAND, TEXAS -- The City of Midland is thrilled to announce a brand-new Christmas and holiday lighting program that will illuminate Downtown Midland, centered around Centennial Park and Bush Convention Center, beginning this holiday season. This festive initiative is set to transform Downtown Midland into a winter wonderland, bringing joy and holiday spirit to residents and visitors alike. The program is expected to run from around Thanksgiving into the new year.  


As part of this new program, the City of Midland is inviting the public to participate in shaping the future of our holiday festivities by voting on the name of the event. We invite the public to vote on their favorite name for the program here: https://strawpoll.com/B2ZB9Eq2LgJ. Voting for the program name will end at midnight on Wednesday, August 21st!  



The lighting program will feature dazzling displays and festive decorations that will light up Centennial Park and the surrounding areas, creating a magical atmosphere throughout the holiday season. This initiative is part of the City’s ongoing efforts to enhance community engagement and make Midland an even more vibrant place to live, work, and visit. With plans to grow the event in the years to come, the City envisions adding even more family-friendly activities and entertainment, making it a must-visit destination during the holiday season. 


“We’re thrilled to introduce this new holiday tradition to Midland,” said Mayor Lori Blong. “Our goal is to create an enchanting experience that brings joy to our community and makes Downtown Midland a vibrant hub of holiday cheer. We look forward to expanding the event in the future with more activities and entertainment for families to enjoy.” 


Mayor Pro Tem Jack Ladd added, “This lighting program is just the beginning. We’re committed to growing this event over the years, adding more activities and entertainment to make it a premier holiday destination for families in Midland and beyond. We invite you to take part in this initial step of giving our new celebration a name that will be known throughout the region.”

Councilman John Norman expressed his enthusiasm for the new holiday lighting program, stating, "I’m thrilled to see this exciting new tradition come to Downtown Midland, right here in my district. This lighting program will not only bring our community together in the spirit of the holidays but also showcase the beauty and vibrancy of our downtown area. I look forward to seeing families and visitors enjoying the festive atmosphere as we continue to grow this event in the years to come." 


Save the date for this year’s downtown tree-lighting scheduled for December 3rd and the Christmas parade on December 14th. The new holiday lighting program will run daily throughout the Christmas season.
